TOPEKA (KSNT) – New information has been released by city officials regarding a house fire in west Topeka that injured a local firefighter.
Alan Stahl with the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) said in a press release that fire crews were first called about a possible fire in the evening of Thursday, Feb. 15 in the 4800 block of SW 17th Street. Arriving at the scene, firefighters found a two-story home on fire.
During the response to this situation, a Topeka firefighter experienced a medical emergency and had to be taken to a local hospital for additional treatment. The firefighter is receiving care by hospital staff at this time.
Stahl said an investigation into the cause of the fire has yet to identify the cause. He said the fire resulted in $65,000 in damages.
