Storm Track 3 Forecast: Mid-week warmup, cold front arrives for the weekend

13 February 2024

Unseasonably warm temperatures are top of mind through Wednesday.  Get out and enjoy! Count on sunshiny skies and temps warming through the 50s into the 60s.

The warmth will draw the crowd to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs from Downtown KC to Midtown over to Union Station for the Championship Parade and rally Wednesday.  Given how cold the last two parades were, this is guaranteed to draw a much larger crowd!

Wednesday night, a few rain and snow showers are possible from Northeast Kansas into northern Missouri.  This misses our viewing area.

A weak cold front will track across the state, lowering Thursday’s high temperatures.

A stronger cold front will work South Friday into Friday night.  This could also combine with a chance for rain and snow showers.  Areas near and north of I-70, along with spots near and East of I-135, are in the best line-up for any moisture.

It will be light and quick before drier air wins. If any snowfall accumulations are realized, do not expect much due to the lack of moisture available and warm ground.  Winds will strengthen as this front crosses our path.

Friday night will be bitter leading to a cold Saturday.

Saturday will be below average before warmer winds return to end the weekend.  More sunshine is expected Saturday with a few clouds on Sunday.

Highs next week will feel like springtime!  Parts of southern Kansas may make a run for the lower 70s!  A shower or two may form Monday, but much of next week looks dry.
