LAWRENCE (KSNT) – KU softball took all sorts of steps in the direction of turning the program around in 2023.
The progress makes 2024 feel pivotal. Another step up and the program can solidify itself as a legitimate Big 12 contender. A step backwards could make 2023 feel pointless.
However, the taste of success last spring left the Jayhawks anything but satisfied.
“Last season was painful at times because we were so close to winning some really big games for us,” head coach Jennifer McFalls said.
“We know what it’s like to taste the feeling of victory,” junior Olivia Bruno said. “We just want to keep going, bring it another level. We know we can do it.”
There’s a mutual sense of responsibility: The seniors want to leave the program trending upward. The rest of the squad wants to send those seniors off on a high note.
“They’ve taught us underclassmen everything we know, that’s on the field and off the field,” sophomore Campbell Bagshaw said.
KU’s home opener is March 5 against Creighton.
