What you need to know if you’re going to the Chiefs parade

13 February 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – More than a million people are expected to attend the parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ Big Game win. Here’s what to watch out for if you’re making the trek to Kansas City.

It’s a good idea to plan ahead before hitting the road, according to the KHP.

The first thing to do is to make sure to know the route.

KHP troopers said not to split attention between navigation and the road.

They also say to expect road closures downtown near the parade and to know alternate routes.

Tougher driving conditions are more likely the closer you get to the excitement.

Where to watch Chiefs victory parade and rally

“Sometimes with big events, it’s kind of like rush hour traffic, where traffic stops and goes,” said Tiffany Baylark, KHP Technical Trooper. “You’re cruising along at 60 miles an hour, and now, all of a sudden, you’re down to 30.”

Even though the parade starts at 11 on Wednesday, you’ll need to leave plenty early to get anywhere near the action. Expect long walks with crowds to get close to the action.

KHP troopers will be out all day Wednesday, from morning to night, patrolling the roads.
They’ll look for and order tows for abandoned cars on roadside shoulders.

Normally, cars on the right shoulder have 48 hours to sit before they’re cleared. The rule won’t apply on Wednesday since it’s a major event day, and emergency vehicles have to be able to cut through traffic.

If you don’t want to brave the streets closest to the parade, Kansas City is providing free park-and-ride shuttles from five parking locations.

Exact locations and other parking options are listed here.
