ESU hoops splits games with Missouri Western

EMPORIA (KSNT) – The Emporia State Hornets split contests with Missouri Western State on Saturday.

The women’s team fell to the Griffons 51-61. The Hornets struggled offensively, shooting just over 34 percent from the floor. Faith Paramore and Stevie Stinchcomb led the way for ESU on the scoreboard, with Paramore scoring a team-high 14 points and Stinchcomb tallying 13.

With the loss, the women’s team drops to 10-13 on the season.

The men’s team took down the Griffons 70-56. The Hornets only coughed up two turnovers, while forcing 16 from their opponents. Atavian Butler led the way with a team-high 23 points, Drew Tennial scoring 15 and Alijah Comithier adding 12.

With the win, the men’s team improves to 15-10 on the season.

Up next, both Hornet squads will be on the road at Newman on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. for the women and 3:30 p.m. for the men.
