Snow showers are tracking into the Sunflower State this evening. Cloud cover lingers through the overnight as moisture becomes widespread.
Winter Weather Advisories are in place for the southwest corner of the region through 6 PM Sunday. This is where we expect the highest snowfall totals throughout the state.
Rain and snow will continue to inch across the Colorado/Kansas state line. Northerly winds will help temperatures fall tonight. We will see moisture transition to primarily snow as temperatures dip below freezing across western Kansas.
Snow continues to march into the state through the evening, becoming more widespread across the western half of the state. Snowfall will mainly be light, with a few isolated bands of heavier precipitation.
Temperatures dip back into the 20s and 30s. Central Kansas will miss out on most of the moisture as the low-pressure system driving this system dives to our south, pulling snowfall along with it.
Most of western Kansas can expect to see a trace of snowfall through Sunday, with higher totals in the far southwest corner of the region. Southeast Kansas will see flakes fly on Sunday as the low-pressure system tracks well to our south across Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Temperatures will be near the seasonal norm tomorrow as we see highs in the 30s and 40s. The cloud cover will be thick to start the day, but more sunshine will peek through the clouds by the second half of the day.
Most rain and snow for Sunday night will stay on the other side of the state line, primarily impacting Oklahoma. A random shower or two could be possible in our southernmost counties as this system continues to track east.
Temperatures recover through the middle of the week. Highs climb back into the upper 50s by Tuesday and stay there through Thursday. Our next pattern change arrives for the start of the weekend, with temperatures diving back into the 40s.
The weekend will also bring another opportunity for moisture. Slight chances for rain and snow to return to the forecast by Saturday. We will continue to monitor trends to see how this pattern unfolds over the course of the week.
