TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning people to avoid eating salad kits which may contain harmful food borne disease.
The FDA say Taylor Fresh Foods of Salinas, California has voluntarily recalled its Marketside Bacon Ranch Crunch Salad Kit as it contains cheese which could be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. This is part of an expanded recall from Rizo-López Foods, Inc.
Listeria can cause serious and even life-threatening infections in young children, frail or older adults and those who have weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) website. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms like a high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can also lead to stillbirths and miscarriages among pregnant women.
The FDA said Taylor Fresh Foods is working to remove the salad kit from store shelves and inventories. No reports of illness have been made yet in connection to this recall. The kit was sold at Walmart locations in Kansas, Missouri and 23 other states.
The recalled salad kit comes in a 12.76-ounce package with the UPC number 681131305440. Code dates starting with “TFRS” and “best if used by” dates on or before Feb. 21, 2024. This information can be found in the upper-right-hand corner of the package.
If you bought the recalled salad kit, you are encouraged by the FDA to throw it away immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. If you have any questions regarding this recall, you can call 855-455-0098 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
