TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka is offering 50-50 cost-share assistance to repair sidewalks in disrepair.
The 50-50 Sidewalk Repair Program is now accepting applications. Additional assistance may be available to those who are income-qualified. In 2022, the program approved $100,000 in cost-share assistance from the Capital Improvement Budget.
To qualify for the program, the property must:
be classified as residential
have a sidewalk in violation of city standards and/or ADA standards.
brick sidewalk replacement is available in historical areas but may not be a 50-50 match due to higher costs involved.
not include the cleaning of brick sidewalks or the installation of ADA ramps.
the property owner’s cost share must be received prior to being added to the list unless the homeowner qualifies for funding assistance.
the owner must not have outstanding construction permit violations or outstanding debt with the city.
In June 2022, the program was changed to assist income-qualified households. Now, homeowners can have the out-of-pocket cost waived if they meet certain criteria.
The property must be owner-occupied.
Household income must not exceed the current median household income.
One-person home: $46,350 limit
Two-person home: $52,950 limit
Three-person home: $59,550 limit
Four-person home: $66,150 limit
Five-person home: $71,450 limit
Six-person home: $76,750 limit
Seven-person home: $82,050 limit
Eight-person home: $87,350 limit
