Gusty winds are top of mind through midday Thursday. Winds will easily gust from 35 to 45 MPH across much of Kansas during this time.
Gusts could also exceed 50 MPH with the onset of our late week cold front. A Wind Advisory is in effect until midnight but will more than likely be extended a few more hours into the overnight as the strongest wind gusts march East.
Scattered showers and a few storms will develop across western Kansas through early evening. These will track and weaken into central and eastern Kansas early tonight. No severe weather is expected, but these weakening showers could draw down some stronger wind gusts.
Lows tonight will be cool in the 30s and 40s.
Rain is most likely in Wichita between 10 PM Wednesday and 2 AM Thursday. We will be cleared out by the time the sun comes up. Only a quick splash of rain is expected as these will be moving quickly.
Highs warming to the 50s and 60s keep us on the mild side Thursday.
A few rain showers and sprinkles are possible over Northwest Kansas Thursday.
Another piece of energy could bring a few rain and snow showers to northern Kansas by Friday.
A stronger system is on deck this weekend but will largely miss the KSN viewing area. It will get steered around Kansas to the south.
Starting Saturday afternoon, rain to snow showers will build into western Kansas.
As temps cool Saturday night, rain changes to all snow. There will be snowfall accumulations across parts of western Kansas closer to the Colorado state line. That said, accumulations will be light and not have a major impact on travel.
With the system tracking east, moisture will then skim the Oklahoma state line Saturday night into Sunday. We may see some light snowfall accumulations near and south of Highway 54. Farther north, we are running into drier air. Temperatures will be just barely cold enough to support a change over from rain to snow for a few hours. This may have some impacts for Big Game festivities.
Temps will drop near seasonal levels this weekend and next week. Looks like another dry and cool stretch sets up until late next week. We will keep an eye on another chance for rain and snow for the end of next week.
