KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is back with the team in Las Vegas after missing the beginning of Super Bowl week.
Reports surfaced that Sneed missed time for the birth of his child, a baby girl, and he confirmed those reports when he arrived in Las Vegas for the first time this week on Wednesday.
“Yes, it was,” Sneed told reporters. “Everything went fine. Everything went well. Thank you all.”
Sneed missed Monday’s opening night media event as well as the Chiefs’ Monday padded practice and walkthrough.
“I just got here,” Sneed said Wednesday. “It’s my first day in town. I’m just enjoying this moment, just being here.”
The Minden, Louisiana, native added his six-year-old Kyson is also in attendance with the rest of his family.
The Chiefs’ top cornerback has been one of the reasons why the team is in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.
The fourth-year corner has the versatility to play at outside corner, slot corner, and safety, but the defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, has used Sneed primarily to occasionally follow the opposing top wide receiver.
He has only allowed one touchdown in his coverage, and that came in the AFC Championship, and he also has 16 total pass deflections on the season.
As his rookie contract expires at the end of the season, the Chiefs will have one more game to showcase their elite defense in the Super Bowl before the front office has decisions to make on several potentially exiting defensive players like Sneed.
