WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Lunar New Year is on Saturday, Feb. 10. This year is the year of the dragon.
Several places across Wichita are hosting celebrations.
Kim Son Asian Food Market
Celebrate the Lunar New Year from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Kim Son Asian Food Market, 960 E. Pawnee St.
Kim Son will have three different lion dance groups. The Anthony Team will perform at 11 a.m. The All Saints Team will perform at 12:30 p.m. The Tri Pho Team will perform at 1 p.m.
The celebration is free and open to the public.
Mark Arts
Celebrate the Lunar Near Year from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Rd.
The event will explore different Lunar New Year celebrations from around the world.
At 10 a.m., Ms. Wichita Asian Festival will read “Celebrating Chinese New Year: History, Traditions, and Activities.” At 10:30 a.m., you can create Chinese paintbrush bookmarks, dragon paper chains, and a New Year envelope project. At 11 a.m., you can enjoy an instrument performance by Ms. Yuhui Ma, followed by a Tea Folk Dance performed by the Chinese Women’s Group.

Wichita Public Library – Evergreen
Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Wichita Public Library’s Evergreen Branch.
Drop in to craft a fire-breathing dragon to celebrate.
The celebration is aimed at kids aged 4-11.
Wichita Public Library – Advanced Learning Library
Celebrate the Lunar New Year from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Advanced Learning Library, 711 W. Second St. N.
Learn about annual traditions with this year’s Miss Wichita Asian Festival, bring in good fortune with the East High Lion Dance club, and learn about lucky ways to start the new year.
The celebration is aimed at kids and teenagers aged 5-18 and their families.
