Topeka school celebrates Chiefs, Taylor Swift with spirit day

7 February 2024

TOPEKA (KSNT) – McClure elementary is kicking off Super Bowl week with Chiefs-themed spirit days to celebrate the big game.

Yesterday, it started with ‘Mahomes Mania Monday’, and it continued today with ‘In my Chiefs Era Tuesday’. Students and staff sported their favorite Chiefs and ‘Swiftie’ apparel.

Several students shared what they’re most excited to see Sunday. Veda Anderson – a fifth grader rocking Taylor Swift’s outfit from the 2008 hit video “You Belong With Me” – says she’s wishing the Chiefs won’t be the only ones bringing rings home.

“I’m hoping that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift get engaged at the Super Bowl,” Anderson said. “Definitely would make a lot of sense.”

Not all of the young fans are as invested in the Kelce-Swift romance, though. Fellow fifth grader, Dillon Duncan – wearing a red Chiefs jacket, Patrick Mahomes wig, and a Super Bowl LIV replica ring he got for his birthday – says he doesn’t care about Swift.

“I want to see Mahomes just scramble a bunch of yards for a touchdown,” Duncan said.

The school continues its spirit week with ‘Wake Up and Win Wednesday’, ‘Throw It Back Thursday’, and ‘Red Friday’.
