Driver to be picked up by federal authorities after police pursuit of stolen vehicle into Kansas

KANSAS (KSNW) — The driver of a stolen vehicle involved in a police pursuit from Nebraska into Kansas is going to be picked up by federal authorities.

According to the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, they were notified at 9:28 a.m. Tuesday of the pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Phelps County, Nebraska, that was headed southbound on U.S. Highway 183.

The pursuit continued through Harlan County, Nebraska, and into Kansas.

The PCSO says deputies intercepted the stolen vehicle on U.S. Highway 183 at East Fox Road in Walnut when it ran out of gas. The suspect surrendered immediately without incident. The vehicle was stolen out of Colorado.

The suspect is a 34-year-old man.

He is being lodged at the Phillips County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, reckless driving, speeding 122 mph in a 65, no driver’s license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has confirmed the man’s identity. ICE has sent a detainer to hold him.
