SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Drivers south of Topeka, be ready to find a detour for the next few months.
A construction project is about to begin that will close a major road through September. Starting Feb. 19, Shawnee County plans close South Topeka Boulevard just south of Southwest 97th Street to the intersection of South Topeka Boulevard and Southwest 101st Street.
Crews will completely tear down and replace the existing bridge over the Wakarusa River. The county expects to complete the project by Sept. 27, 2024. No formal detour will be posted, but message boards will go up Feb. 7 to warn motorists about the closure.
