4 February 2024
Showers are ramping up across eastern Kansas this evening. Showers are moving north across the region and will linger through the night.
We have already seen a good deal of rain over the last 24 hours. Totals across central Kansas have been around a half of an inch, with some localized areas picking up closer to three-quarters of an inch. Southwest Kansas only saw trace amounts of rain.
Pockets of heavy downpours will continue through central Kansas this evening, becoming more widespread. Some areas could hear a rumble of thunder or two. Make sure to grab the rain gear if you have any late-night plans for your Saturday.
With abundant cloud cover, temperatures overnight will fall back into the 30s and 40s. We expect the entire region to stay above freezing with all precipitation falling as rain.
Areas of dense fog will be impacting the northwest conern of the region overnight. Dense Fog Advisories are in place through noon on Sunday.
The rain will be much lighter tomorrow. Stray showers will linger for the morning and early afternoon. But as the low-pressure system pulls off to the east, the rain will exit the Sunflower State with moisture wrapping up by Sunday night.
Highs will be cool thanks to the cloud cover and rain. We will reach the 40s and 50s by Sunday afternoon with breezy winds out of the northeast.
An additional half inch to inch of rainfall is possible through Monday morning for central and eastern Kansas. Western Kansas will miss out on the bulk of the rain.
Temperatures climb under dry skies for the start of the week. We stay well above average through the workweek with highs in the 50s and inching closer to the 60s by Wednesday.
Our next opportunity for moisture will arrive late Wednesday night into Thursday. This will be a quick-moving shot of rainfall through the state as we see temperatures fall a few degrees as we approach the weekend.
