KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs could get another offensive weapon back for Super Bowl LVIII.

Running back Jerick McKinnon is designated to return from injured reserve after suffering a groin injury.

McKinnon was placed on injured reserve before the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game against the Las Vegas Raiders and reportedly had surgery in January for a core muscle injury and a fractured pelvis.

McKinnon was also a big piece in last year’s Super Bowl run by adding depth amongst the running backs but most notable, was his ability to make plays in the receiving game.

The 31-year-old has played in 12 games this season (missing five for the same injury) with 60 rushing yards on 21 carries, 192 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 25 receptions.

McKinnon’s biggest influence will likely be coming in the game to block on passing downs and reliving starting RB Isiah Pacheco.
