TOPEKA (KSNT) – The City of Topeka has issued an update amid the ongoing ‘pothole emergency’ being experienced on local streets.
Topeka spokeswoman Rosie Nichols said in a press release on Feb. 2 that city crews have “made significant progress filling potholes on arterial and collector roadways” over the past week. More than 1,000 potholes have been filled since the emergency was declared on Jan. 29 with staff working overtime to ensure progress is made on the situation.
“Given the number of open service requests, many unfilled potholes in residential neighborhoods, and rain in the weekend forecast, Public Works Director Braxton Copley is extending the emergency declaration for the week of February 5,” Nichols said.
Nichols encourages people to use the SeeClickFix app to report new potholes in the city. You can learn more about efforts to combat potholes in Topeka by clicking here. KSNT 27 News recently spoke with the Kansas Highway Patrol for tips on how to avoid potholes in the roads.
