CLAREMORE, Okla. (KSNT) – Washburn basketball needed extra time Thursday to come home with one win.
The men beat Rogers State, 80-74, in overtime. The women fell, 65-54.
Men’s recap:
The Ichabods and Hillcats went back-and-forth all game. Washburn (14-6, 10-4 MIAA) gave up six points at the end of regulation, allowing Rogers State to force overtime.
However, the ‘Bods scored the first six points in OT for a 75-69 lead. Rogers State scored the next five points to trim the lead to one. Then, the Ichabods closed with five-straight points from the free throw line for a six-point win.
Andrew Orr got his first double-double of the season and the fourth of his Ichabod career with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Ungashick had 18 points with seven rebounds.
Women’s recap:
Washburn (11-9, 6-8 MIAA) got into an early deficit and couldn’t come back into the lead. Aubree Dewey opened the game with a jumper seven seconds in, but later in the first quarter, the Hillcats hit seven-straight points for the lead and never let go of it.
The Ichabods shot 16-48 (33.3%) in the game and were 18-28 from the free throw line. Rogers State shot just 4-27 in the second half, but were 25-32 from the free throw line (78.1%).
Next, Washburn finishes its road trip at Northeastern State on Saturday.
