Police: Wichita man attacked, injured by two dogs

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 42-year-old Wichita man was seriously injured when he had to fight off two dogs with garden tools.

It happened around 7 a.m. on Pawnee near Cherry Creek Drive, east of Rock Road.

Wichita Police Department Lt. Krys Henderson said the man, on his morning walk, tried to defend himself from the dogs for about 20 to 25 minutes.

“I want to thank the citizens that tried to come to the rescue of the victim by giving him garden utensils, things of that nature to fight off the pit bulls in this case,” Henderson said. “He tried to scale a fence at one point to try to get away from the two pit bulls that were attacking him.”

The officers said the help of bystanders helped alleviate the injuries the man received.

The dogs were not injured, and police placed them into the back of a patrol car until the Wichita Animal Shelter could arrive.

Officers are trying to determine if the dogs belong to anyone.
