Jackie Robinson statue update: truck found, fundraising starts

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department says it has found the pickup “believed to be used in the theft” of the Jackie Robinson statute from League 42 at McAdams Park.

The theft happened at 17th Street and Ohio last Wednesday night. The statue was cut just above the feet.

Police released surveillance photos and video after the theft. The WPD says investigators with the Property Crimes Bureau worked all weekend, following up on leads. They also got help from the WPD Field Community Response Team.

On Monday afternoon, the WPD announced that investigators were able to find and recover the truck.

“Detectives are continuing to follow promising leads that we are confident will result in an arrest
of the suspect(s) responsible for this theft,” police said in a news release.
