KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a huge blow to their defense on Sunday.
Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu suffered a torn ACL against the Baltimore Ravens in their AFC Championship win.
Omenihu has been one of the Chiefs’ best pass rushers all season. He finished third on the team in sacks in the regular season with seven to go along with two forced fumbles in just 11 games.
And he also made one of the biggest plays on Sunday, with a strip sack on Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in the first half.
BJ Thompson or Felix Anudike-Uzomah will likely be the candidates to fill in for Omenihu in Super Bowl LVIII against his former team, the San Francisco 49ers.
Omenihu has been one of the most vocal players on the defense about the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl.
He simply tweeted out a broken heart emoji after receiving the news about the injury. It is a tough blow for the edge rusher, who has been a vital part of the Chiefs’ defense and one of the most vocal players about the Super Bowl opportunity.
