Storm Track 3 Forecast: Spotty rain overnight south, warming next week

26 January 2024

A southern track storm system offers up rain to Oklahoma and Texas.  Southern Kansas will get skimmed by this overnight, including the Wichita Metro.

Most of this should stay as rain, but as it departs well after midnight, a brief wintry mix could form in Southeast Kansas.

Clouds have started to clear in Northwest Kansas.  We will see further clearing tonight out west but as temps cool, the air will become saturated and patchy dense freezing fog is possible. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until midday Saturday for many counties from central into western Kansas.

Temperatures will fall overnight to the 20s and 30s. Watch for slick spots early Saturday morning.

The clearing line will take time tracking to the east Saturday.  Wichita should start to see the shift to drier air between 3 and 4 PM Saturday.  Temperatures will be slightly cooler than average farther east with more warmth in the west.

Warmer winds signal a pattern change for next week beginning Sunday.  Temperatures on Sunday will be mainly in the 50s and feel wonderful.  Winds will be light into the following workweek with dry conditions.  We will climb to the 50s and 60s before a slightly cooler trend at the end of next week.

Next storm system on deck awaits until next weekend.  The first Saturday of February has continued to trend unsettled with rain.  If temps can cool with any remaining moisture, depending on the timing and track of this system, the northwest may have a brief changeover to snow before exiting the region.
