Joel Embiid breaks record set by Chamberlain with Sixers

23 January 2024

Philadelphia, PA. (KSNT) – One former Jayhawk passed another former Jayhawk with a record-breaking performance on Monday.

Joel Embiid scored 70 points in the Philadelphia 76ers 133-123 win against the Spurs on Monday night. The career-high breaks Wilt Chamberlain’s franchise record of 68 points.

Chamberlain still holds the league record for most points in a game; he scored 100 for the Philadelphia Warriors in 1962. Embiid, Chamberlain and David Robinson are the only centers in NBA history to score 70 points in a game.

Embiid was a ‘one-and-done’ with KU in 2013-14, earning second-team All-American honors. He complimented his 70 points with 18 rebounds in the win.
