North Topeka house fire causes $15,000 in damage

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Fire Department (TFD) doused a house fire over the weekend that caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Rosie Nichols with the City of Topeka said in a press release that the TFD were called around 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 20 to a residence in the 500 block of NE Fairchild Road. Fire crews arriving at the scene found smoke coming from a single-story home and were able to put it out.

The homeowners were not present during the fire but arrived after the TFD. No injuries were reported with this fire.


National Weather Service issues winter weather advisories in Kansas

Nichols said an investigation into the cause of the fire was inconclusive. Total estimated losses associated with this fire is set at $15,000. Working smoke detectors were not located inside the home.
