21 January 2024
Today was the last bitterly cold day we will see for a while in the Sunflower State. Highs reached the 10s and 20s this afternoon, with winds slowly becoming southerly.
Winds stay out of the south overnight. Temperatures will still be cold as lows fall into the teens with partly cloudy skies.
Even though winds are coming from the warm weather direction, wind chills will still be frigid by tomorrow morning. We will feel more like the single digits early tomorrow morning.
The good news is that we break past freezing tomorrow with highs in the mid-30s and low 40s. Mostly cloudy skies will prevail with gusty winds out of the south.
Southerly flow will be hard at work to pull temperatures back towards the seasonal norm by the middle of the week. We will gradually climb into the 40s by Tuesday, despite the chances of rain that arrive this week.
We have one last round of wintry weather expected to arrive tomorrow night. This will be primarily for central and eastern Kansas as freezing drizzle and rain will tack through the region after 7 PM and continue into early Monday morning.
A light glaze will be possible primarily southeast of the turnpike through Monday morning, but a few slick spots are possible north of I-70.
Scattered showers will be off and on throughout most of Monday, with rainfall primarily favoring central and eastern Kansas once again.
This unsettled pattern lingers through the week, with more chances for moisture arriving Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Temperatures will be well into the 40s by the middle of the week so the threat of winter weather is out of the picture. Showers will track across the state through the midweek with drier skies expected for the weekend.
Temperatures will not be deterred by the rain chances. We will continue to climb through next weekend, with highs settling into an above-average pattern for early next week.
