Deputies in SE Kansas help fight structure fire

19 January 2024

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Deputies in Montgomery County helped put out a fire in Coffeyville Wednesday night.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said Coffeyville firefighters were working a fire when a second one at a separate location broke out.

Since staffing was limited, when the ladder truck pulled up, the deputies grabbed the hose and started putting water on the fire until more departments could arrive.

“I am very proud of these two deputies for listening to other departments on the radio and recognizing that assistance was needed and responding to help,” Sheriff Ron Wade said, “Having the willingness to jump in and help when it’s not necessarily in their job description says a lot about these two and their service.”
