Here comes the next Arctic blast! The cold front will rudely cross the state from north to south into this evening.
You will notice the arrival with strong winds sustained above 20 MPH with gusts from 40-50. There may be some gusts in western Kansas that exceed 50 MPH through part of tonight.
This change will also come with the possibility of flurries with a higher chance of seeing snow along and northeast of a line from Salina to Emporia.
Any accumulations will be light and generally a dusting to a half inch. This disturbance skims our area as the bitter air spills southward.
Wind Chill Advisories are in effect through Saturday. This stretch of absurd cold will be shorter and not as intense as the last wave but still dangerous.
Wind chills from -20 to -30 degrees are possible into the first half of the weekend. Friday and Saturday mornings will be the coldest with the afternoons remaining below freezing.
Milder winds start to kick this Arctic air to the curb. We will warm into next week closer to seasonal averages across the state.
We will get into a more active set-up with the southern stormy stream picking up and increasing chances for moisture from next Monday through Wednesday. The first shot arrives Monday. Depending on timing, a wintry mix may be possible, but rain looks to be more prevalent.
The second and more widespread round comes in by Wednesday with the capability of rain showers from central into eastern Kansas. Out west, depending on timing and temps, some snow may mix in but right now it does not look like heavy accumulations.
