CLAY COUNTY (KSNT) – A new judge has been selected to fill a vacancy in Clay County.
Lisa Taylor with the Kansas Judicial Branch said in a press release that John McNish will fill a district magistrate judge vacancy in Clay County following the death of District Magistrate Judge William “Bill” Malcolm. McNish is currently in private practice at Bolton & McNish LLC and will officially enter his new role upon his swearing-in ceremony. He will serve in the 21st Judicial District for Clay and Riley Counties.
McNish me the required criteria to be nominated for the position of District Magistrate Judge in the 21st Judicial District:
Be a resident of Clay County at the time of taking office and while holding office
Be a graduate of a high school, a secondary school or the equivalent
Be either a lawyer admitted to practice in Kansas or able to pass an examination to become certified within 18 months
Once he has completed one year in office, McNish will need to stand for a retention vote in the next general election to remain in the position. If he is retained, he will serve another four-year term.
