7 people displaced after fire damages Manhattan home

MANHATTAN, Kan. (KSNT) – Manhattan firefighters were called early Monday to a house fire that displaced seven people and caused $45,000 in damage.

It happened in the 700 block of Pottawatomie Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Crews found a single-story home with flames coming from the back.

The Manhattan Fire Department said seven people inside the home were able to exit. The fire was extinguished in less than 10 minutes. One firefighter was injured and sent to a local hospital but was released.

The home’s contents sustained $15,000 in damage, while its structure sustained $30,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the MFD said.

The occupants are receiving help from the American Red Cross.
