25 March 2024

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Firefighters in Manhattan were called in the early morning hours on Monday to put out a local house fire that caused $45,000 in damage.

The Manhattan Fire Department (MFD) said in a press release that firefighters were mobilized around 1:15 a.m. on March 25 to the 700 block of Pottawatomie Avenue. Fire crews found a single-story home with flames coming from its rear upon arrival.

Seven people inside the home were able to exit before the MFD’s arrival. The fire was extinguished in less than 10 minutes. One firefighter was injured and sent to a local hospital but was later released.

The MFD says $15,000 in damage was done to contents while another $30,000 in damage was done to the structure of the home. The occupants got help from the American Red Cross and are displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
