$5 million in road work projects coming to Topeka

TOPEKA (KSNT) — The City of Topeka is putting over $5 million into new city road projects.

One of the projects approved at a City Council meeting Tuesday includes street and water line improvements on Topeka Boulevard from 21st to 29th Street. This will begin in June and cost nearly $2.5 million.

A micro surfacing project also approved tonight will take place this summer on the northwest quadrant of the city, costing over $1.5 million. Another asphalt project in areas that could see more traffic from detours caused by the Polk-Quincy Viaduct project was approved tonight with a price tag of $1 million. Topeka Public Works Director Braxton Copley says these projects are vital to the city.

“I think that this is a very wise investment in our infrastructure to be able to be able to provide a good, safe, street network for our residence,” Copley said.

For the Topeka Boulevard project, 27th through 29th Street could completely shut down. Copley says this could save time and money for the entire process.
