440,000 Starbucks mugs recalled after burn injuries reported

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Starbucks-branded mugs sold in holiday gift sets last year are being recalled from stores nationwide after several injuries were reported.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) made the announcement on March 21 that Nestlé USA is recalling metallic mugs sold in 2023 Holiday Starbucks-branded gift sets. The recall impacts four gifts sets which consists of more than 440,000 units sold through major retailers like Target and Walmart. The mugs were sold in 11 oz. and 16 oz. varieties as part of one of the following gift sets:

Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs

Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug

Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug

Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug

The CPSC is warning people who purchased the gift sets to stop using them immediately. Plans should be made to either return the sets or contact Nestlé USA for a full refund. You can choose to receive a gift card or cash when you return your gift set.


Why are there seagulls in Kansas?

In total, 12 reports of incidents related to the recalled mugs have been received by the CPSC. The mugs are prone to overheating or breaking which has resulted in 10 injuries so far for burnt hands and one report of a cut finger.
