TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — Governor Laura Kelly’s office has announced $453 million for four modernization or expansion projects for highways in south-central Kansas.
It’s one of 17 projects announced Thursday for the development pipeline under the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program for 2024. Preliminary engineering work will begin soon on projects scheduled for Butler, Harvey, Kingman, and Sedgwick County.
“These highway projects tackle long-standing transportation needs across the state – improving safety, expanding economic development opportunities and strengthening our communities,” says Governor Kelly. “My administration is committed to making short- and long-term infrastructure improvements to benefit future generations of Kansans.”
The south-central Kansas projects are:
$200 million for the U.S. 54/Kellogg Avenue expansion project from east of 159th Street to Prairie Creek Road in Butler County
$30 million for the U.S. 50/Meridian Street interchange modernization and bridge replacement project in Newton in Harvey County.
$173 million for the U.S. 54 expansion project to create a bypass,4-lane freeway starting from 1 mile west of K-11/U.S. 54 to the existing 4 lanes east of Kingman in Kingman County
$50 million for the K-254 expansion project to create a new interchange, overpass, and connector road at Webb and Rock roads in Sedgwick County
