HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — Four cats were rescued from a house fire in Hutchinson on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Hutchinson Fire Department, they responded at 1:03 p.m. to the report of a structure fire in the 200 block of West 28th Avenue.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming out of the front door of a single-story home.

Dispatch reported that someone may be inside trying to get pets out.

Firefighters stretched a hose line to the front door. They heard the occupant inside and were able to remove the person from the home and have them checked by RCEMS.

The HFD then started to aggressively attack the fire in the kitchen. It was quickly extinguished.

State of emergency declared in Kansas due to wildfire risk

Search crews were able to clear the home and rescue four cats.

“The Hutchinson Fire Department would like to remind everyone that while pets are very important to us, staying within the home or going back inside to save your pets is dangerous and greatly reduces/slows the efforts of the fire extinguishment,” said the HFD.

The Hutchinson Police Department, Reno County EMS, Kansas Gas, Evergy and Hutchinson-Reno Co. Communications Center assisted.
