3 people killed in Douglas County highway crash identified

DOUGLAS COUNTY (KSNT) — The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) has identified the victims of a deadly crash on U.S. 24 Highway in Douglas County.

The KHP says the two-vehicle crash was first reported just after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 on U.S. 24 Highway near N 2100 Road and close to the Jefferson-Douglas County line.

The first vehicle, a GMC Sierra, was traveling eastbound on the highway while the second vehicle, a Kia Soul, was traveling west on the highway. The GMC hit the Kia head-on in the crash, according to the KHP’s crash logs. The Kia came to a stop in the road while the GMC stopped partially in the road facing south.

The Kia driver, 70-year-old Ronald L. Milano of Bennet, Nebraska, was killed in the crash. Two passengers in the Kia, 39-year-old Joshua Z. Milano and 33-year-old Patricia A. Milano of Lincoln, Nebraska, were also killed in the crash.

The driver of the GMC, a 43-year-old man from Lawrence, was taken to a local hospital. While both drivers were listed as wearing their seat belts during the crash, the KHP was uncertain if the Kia’s passengers were wearing seat belts.
