2 hospitalized after driver falls asleep, rolls SUV on Kansas Turnpike

SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – Two people are injured after a rollover crash on the Kansas Turnpike on Saturday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol’s crash logs show the wreck was first reported just after 11 a.m. on March 16 on I-335 near mile marker 175. The driver of a GMC Terrain was heading north on the turnpike when she fell asleep due to fatigue.

The driver woke up and overcorrected to the right, according to the KHP. The GMC then left the road and rolled three times before landing in a ditch.

An occupant and the driver from Texas were listed as being injured in the crash logs. The driver, a 22-year-old woman, was seriously injured while the passenger, a 36-year-old woman, was listed as having minor injuries. Both were taken to a Topeka area hospital for treatment.
