TOPEKA (KSNT) – The annual Jerold Binkley Tulip Time celebration has begun in Topeka.
Multiple locations around the Capital City have started to see tulips and trees blooming in dedication to the Topeka tradition founded by Jerold Binkley. He retired this tradition of his in 2008 and decided to hand it over to the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation to continue on in his place.
John Bell, superintendent for Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, spoke on how the celebration lives on annually.
“We have 100,000 tulips planted at three different locations here in Shawnee County,” Bell said. “We have Gage Park’s Duran Rock Garden, Ted Ensley Gardens here at Lake Shawnee and then Ward-Meade at Old Prairie Town.”
From April 10-26, everyone is invited to enjoy the nice weather and see the thousands of tulips planted throughout the Ted Ensley Gardens. Also, every Thursday through Sunday from 7-11 p.m. starting April 11-28 “Tulips at Twilight” will be at Old-Prairie Town/Ward-Meade Park.
