10 pounds of marijuana found during Chase Co. traffic stop

COTTONWOOD FALLS, Kan. (KSNW) — Chase County deputies found 10 pounds of marijuana and other drug-related materials during a traffic stop.

The sheriff’s office says it happened Thursday on US Highway 50, just east of Saffordville, or nine miles east of Strong City. Deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding, and the investigation led to a search.

Inside, deputies found 10 pounds of marijuana. The sheriff’s office says they also found materials for growing marijuana, chemicals used to process marijuana for oil, and two firearms.

Deputies arrested a 47-year-old Florida man on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture/cultivate marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of weapons, and no Kansas Drug Tax stamp.

His passenger, a 75-year-old Ohio man, was arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture/cultivate marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no Kansas drug tax stamp.

Formal charges against the men are pending.
